About
I started learning BSL at the age of 12 at my local deaf club in the North West. After graduating with a BSL/English Interpreting degree from the University of Wolverhampton, I worked as a freelance interpreter and as a visiting lecturer for the University. From 2000 to 2011, I was a full time senior lecturer for Deaf Studies and Interpreting teaching across all modules and levels for British Sign Language. For the last nine years.
I have a degree in BSL/Eng Interpreting, Post Graduate Teaching Certificate of Higher Education, NVQ4 language and a MA (with Distinction) in Materials Development for Language Teaching (focusing on BSL).
Whilst at the University of University, I won two teaching awards for e-learning and Innovation and was extensively involved in a number of external projects including a European Award for Languages (2005), ‘Sign-in-School’, Sign Online and BSL-TSN (British Sign Language Teachers Support Network).
In September 2011, I left the University to spend time being a mother and having relocated to Oxfordshire, I teach Level 1 and 2 (Signature) at Oxford and Cherwell Valley College.
I am actively involved in the deaf community and whilst living in Shropshire, spent I was also a volunteer for the Telford and Wrekin Deaf Club as co-secretary for 3 years. I have been on the Oxford Deaf Club's Committee since May 2011
